Maxine G. Roberts, 87, of The Western Home, Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo and Harpers Ferry, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at the Western Home.

She was born November 16, 1912, in Plainfield, daughter of Robert A. and Flora Hinmon Smith. She attended West High School in Waterloo. She married Ted Roberts December 13, 1942, in Waterloo. He died October 20, 1979.

She and her husband owned and operated Roberts Plumbing Company in Waterloo for many years, and Maxine was bookkeeper for the firm. During the war she was hostess at Neelys Cupboard and the President Hotel Zepher Room. She and her husband moved to Harpers Ferry after retirement. Maxine was a volunteer at Thornton Manor in Lansing for many years. She was a member of American Legion Post 722 in Harpers Ferry; a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo; and a member of St. Ann/St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry.

Survived by a sister, Rachel Feely of Waterloo; two nieces, Patricia Geiger of San Benito, TX, and Arlene Jervis of Gulf Breeze, FL; four great-nephews, Lynn Geiger of Cedar Falls; Steve Geiger of East Lansing, MI; Jon Geiger of Carbondale, IL; and Dale Repass of Dubuque; and five great-nieces: Ann Geiger-Kress of Winthrop; Judy Smith of Fairfield; Camille Power of Des Moines; Susan Kennedy of Tarpon Springs, FL; and Julie Cobb of Navarre, FL.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. A memorial mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann/St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry with inurnment at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery, also in Harpers Ferry. There will be no visitation; her body was donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City.

Memorials may be made to St. Ann/St. Joseph Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry.
