Funeral services for Miss Diana Worm, 18, who died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds Monday night, will be conducted Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, with the pastor, The Rev. S. M. Schreitmueller, officiating. The Parrott & Wood Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The casket will not be opened at any time.

Miss Worm was born in Cedar Rapids on Dec. 31, 1949, the daughter of Robert and Vera [Aegerter] Worm. She was a senior at East High School and was a cheerleader there. She was also a life guard at Gates Pool. She was a cooperative student at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

A year ago Miss Worm was one of the finalists in the East High queen contest.

Surviving are the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Worm of San Diego; Mr. and Mrs. William Aegerter, 116 Irving St., Waterloo; three aunts, Mrs. Jay Stambaugh, 205 Clark St., Evansdale; Mrs. Leon Railsback, 324 Englewood Ave.; Mrs. Bennie Bjornson, 2621 Ansborough; four uncles, Dale and Stan Worm of San Diego; Caroll of Colorado and Harold Aegerter of 1034 Oregon St.

She was preceded in death by both parents.

Kills Herself With Rifle

An East High School cheerleader died at Allen Memorial Hospital late Monday night, eight hours after she shot herself in the forehead with a .22 caliber rife

Black Hawk County Medical Examiner Dr. Paul O'Keefe said the death of Diane Lynn Worm, 18, of 512 Courtland St. had been ruled a suicide. O'Keefe said Miss Worm died of a massive cerebral hemorrhage caused by a penetrating gunshot wound to the head.

According to police, Miss Worm had been staying with the William Hope family at 512 Courtland since the suicide of her mother, about a year ago. Hope reported the shooting at 3:11 p.m. Monday. A year ago, Miss Worm was one of the finalists in the East High School queen contest.

Her mother, Mrs. Vera Pearl Worm also killed herself. She was 46 when she took her own life with a shotgun at her home, 210½ Courtland St.

Funeral services for Miss Worm will be conducted Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church with the pastor Rev. S. M. Scheilmueller, officiating, and the Parrott & Wood Funeral Home in charge. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The casket will not be open at any time.

Surviving are her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Aegerter, 116 Irving St.; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Worm of California; an aunt, Mrs. B. R. Bjornson, 2521 Ansborough Ave., and one uncle, Harold Aegerter, of 1034 Oregon St.

She was preceded in death by both parents.
