GILBERTVILLE — Gerald J. Delagardelle, 78, of Gilbertville, died Wednesday May 29, 2002, at home of lung cancer.

He was born May 16, 1924, in Jesup, son of Matt and Catherine Federspiel Delagardelle. He married Maxine Schmitz Sept 24, 1946, in Waterloo. Mr. Delagardelle farmed in the Gilbertville area until retiring in 1982.

Survivors include his wife, of Waterloo; a son, William "Bill" of Jesup; three daughters: Marilyn Even of Jesup, and Beverly Long and Diane McGrane, both of Waterloo; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Roman of Jesup and Bob and Gene, both of Waterloo; and four sisters: Valeria Schmitz of Waterloo, Camilla Weber and Eileen Federspiel, both of Jesup, and Norma Lovell of Missouri.

Preceded in death by three brothers: Jerome, Anthony and Louis; and a sister, Rita Weber.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, with a 3 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an.hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
