Funeral services for Mrs. Art Hilsman, 54, of 911 Leavitt St., who died Sunday at 11:45 a.m. at St. Francis hospital of carcinoma, will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic church. The Very Rev. Msgr. E. J. O'Hagan, pastor, will officiate. The place of burial will be named later.

Mrs. Hilsman was born Irene Mary Michels April 27, 1907, at St. Joseph, Minnesota, daughter of Joseph and Julia Pappenfus Michels. She graduated from Cathedral High School at St. Cloud, Minnesota, and from the teachers college there, then taught in rural schools of that vicinity.

She married Art Hilsman December 28, 1938, at St. Cloud and came to Waterloo soon after. She taught at Blessed Sacrament and St. John's Catholic parochial schools. She then taught third grade at Sacred Heart School until ill health caused her retirement in October. Mrs. Hilsman was a member of Sacred Heart Church and its Rosary Society.

Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. James Kemper of Grand Forks, N. D., and Miss June Hilsman of the school of nursing at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital, Dubuque, and one son, Gordon, student at Loras College, Dubuque.

Also surviving are six sisters: Sister Mary Chantal OSB of. St. Anthony convent, St. Cloud; Sister Germaine OSF of St. Gabriel convent, Little Falls, Minn.; Mrs. Ambrose Backes of Albany, Minn.; Mrs. Morgan Rider of Hammond, Ind.; Mrs. Harold Pasch of Little Falls, Minn.; and Miss Margaret Michels, St. Paul, Minn.; two brothers, Lee Michels, Jefferson City, Mo., and Joseph, St. Cloud, Minn.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents and one sister.

A rosary service is planned for 8 p.m. Monday and another by the parish at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Oppold Funeral Home.
