WATERLOO — Richard Dale “Dick” Pierce, 82, of Waukon, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Patty Elwood Center, Cresco.

He was born June 20, 1930, in Orlando, Fla., son of Iona Marie Murray Brinkman. He married JoAnne “Joy” Miller on Feb. 11, 1955, in Chicago

After finishing school in Waterloo, he owned two service stations in Waterloo with his brother Pete. He served in the Army from 1953 to 1955, and then worked for the University of Chicago. Mr. Pierce returned to Waterloo and worked as a mechanic. Later, he would work for John Deere as an inspector and troubleshooter, retiring in 1989. He was a member of New Life Christian Church, Waukon.

Survived by his wife; three sons: Jeffrey Pierce of Independence, Gregory (Denise) Pierce of Dunkerton and Rick Wells of Waterloo; a daughter, Darcie (Gale) Klocke of Waukon; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ernest “Pete” (Margaret) of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Donald.

Celebration of life service: 11 a.m. Monday at Martin Funeral Home, with burial in Oakland Cemetery, both in Waukon. Visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home
