WATERLOO — Alvin C. Hanson, 78, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center from complications of surgery.

He was born Jan. 2, 1922, in LeRoy, Minn., son of Martin and Hanna Renner Hanson. He married June Moser on May 3, 1943, in Waterloo.

Mr. Hanson was a U.S. Army veteran and had owned and operated Alvin Hanson Trucking for 23 years, retiring in 1993. He and his wife operated a petting zoo on La Porte Road during the 1960s.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Jerry and Randy, both of Waterloo; a daughter, Sharilyn Reed-Hart of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother, Earl.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hammond Avenue Brethren Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Keams, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Association or to Hammond Avenue Brethren Church building fund.
