CEDAR FALLS — Veryl Richard Van Syoc, 85, of New Aldaya Lifescapes, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

He was born March 11, 1928, in Riceville, son of Wilbur and Edna Torney Van Syoc. He married Roseanna Essmann on July 25, 1948, at First Congregational Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Van Syoc attended Waterloo West High School, then went to work for Illinois Central Railroad as a machinist. He later worked for John Deere as a machinist, retiring after over 29 years of employment.

Survived by his wife; a son, Craig (Lynda) of Forest City; a daughter-in-law, Suzanne Van Syoc of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Christopher Van Syoc, Stephanie (Lonnie) Moore and Abby (Michael) Teigland; five great-grandchildren, Devon, Gabrielle and Sierra Moore, Julia and Mia Rose Tiegland; and a brother, Merlyn of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by a son, Danny; and a sister, Geraldine.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at NewAldaya Lifescapes Chapel, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial fund has been established.

Veryl truly cherished his family and felt very blessed. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, traveling in their motor home and riding their motorcycle.
