DEATH OF F. C. HOLTZ

DECEASED WAS 82 YEARS OLD AND DEATH RESULTED FROM OLD AGE

WAS BORN IN GERMANY

Had Made His Home in Iowa For Thirty-Eight Years - Funeral Thursday

Fred Holz, a resident of this state for more than thirty-eight years, died this morning at 5:00 o'clock at the family home, 229 Maple Street. Death was due to dropsy and old age. He was eighty-two years old and had lived in Waterloo about four years. The funeral service will probably be held in this city on Thursday and the remains will be taken to Newell for burial.

Deceased was a native of Germany and for a number of years followed the vocation of brewer in that country.

He was born at Leitzen, July 5, 1822, and remained there until 33 years of age, when he came to America. At the age of twenty years he was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Kaston. The ceremony was performed at Leitzen, on the 26th day of June, 1842.

Mr. and Mrs. Holz landed in America in May, 1855, and located in Milwaukee, where Mr. Holz. followed his occupation. For twelve years the family resided there, and in 1866 thirty eight years ago, Iowa was chosen as their home. They moved to Black hawk County and, settled on a farm east of this city. For eighteen years deceased followed agricultural pursuits. Their next home was at Newell, ia. where they farmed for ten years. It was while living there that Mr. Holz lost his wife through death. After his bereavement Mr. Holz decided to retire from farm work and went to live with a daughter, Mrs. L. Guelzow; who made her home in Black Hawk County. Four years ago Mr. Holz purchased the house at 229 Maple Street and moved with his daughter to this city. They had lived here continuously since that time.

The surviving relatives are one son and four daughters. They are: John Holz, Newell; Mrs. L. Guelzow, Waterloo; Mrs. Mary Turner, Barclay Township; Mrs. R. A. Moore, Fonda; Mrs. C. W. Moore, Correctionville.

Funeral services will be held from his late home on Maple Street sometime Thursday, the exact hour not being set. Services will be in charge of Rev. Hasskarl, pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Deceased was a member of the local church. The remains will be taken to Newell and buried beside those of his wife.
