Leo J. Lonergan, 73, of 815 Wellington St., died at Schoitz Memorial Hospital at 7:30 p. m. Tuesday. He had been a patient there since June 21, following a stroke.

Mr. Lonergan was born May 4, 1894, in Marengo, the son of Edward and Mary Maun Lonergan. He worked for the Simmons Motor Co. of Marengo for 19 years, then moved to Waterloo, where he was employed by the Waterloo John Deere Tractor Works for 12 years. He retired in 1959.

Mr. Lonergan married Esther B. Lindsay at Cedar Rapids on June 22, 1926. He was a charter member of the Walter Wandling Post American Legion, of Marengo; was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Marengo. He served in World War I.

He is survived by his widow and one son, James, 2817 Dallas Drive, Cedar Falls and two brothers, James, Denver, Colo., and Lucian, Marshalltown, and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services for Mr. Loneran will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. E. J. O'Hagan officiating. Graveside services will be performed by Walter Wandling Post American Legion of Marengo, and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Marengo at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Friends may call at the Oppold Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Wednesday. Rosary services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday.
