DENVER - William George "Bill" Brustkern, 65, of Denver, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at his home of cancer.

He was born Aug. 26, 1942, in Waterloo, son of William and Gladys Bedard Brustkern. He married Sherrilyn Hedman Dec. 26, 1964, in Waterloo.

Mr. Brustkern test drove tractors for the Waterloo John Deere Tractor Works for 30 years, retiring March 1, 1997. He also was employed with Peterson Construction Company for several years.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Billie Jo Gordon of Runnells and Carmen (Sheldon) VanHeiden of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Austin and Kailey VanHeiden; three sisters: Maryanne (Don) Pierce of Waterloo, Patricia (Kenny) Frost of Hudson and Chris Brustkern of Washburn; a sister-in-law, Judy Brustkern of Indiana; and a brother, John of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by four brothers: Cleo, Derwin, Dick and Joe (Donna); and two sisters, Marrian Rand and Donna (Kelly) Fry.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
