WASHBURN - Teresa M. Bertch, 93, of 4714 E. Washburn Road, died Monday, April 25, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of complications of a stroke.

She was born March 19, 1912, in Fox Township, daughter of Mathias and Anna Frost Schmitz. She married Kenneth W. Bertch Nov. 4, 1931, in Gilbertville. He died Feb. 1, 1992.

Mrs. Bertch and her husband farmed most of their life in the vicinity of Gilbertville and Washburn, before retiring in Washburn.

Survivors include five sons: Bill (Norma) of Omaha, Neb., Russ, Kenny and Gary (Becky), all of Waterloo, and Bob (Mary) of Woodinville, Wash.; five daughters: Marlene Pates of Golden, Colo., Donna (Kenny) Reiter and Rita (Nick) Frost, both of Waterloo, Betty (Ralph) Stockman of Plymouth, Minn., and Mary (Ted) Wieland of Winthrop; 37 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Schmitz Purdy.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Nick Schmitz, and two sisters, Rose Weber and Philomena Holbach.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Marys Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary by the Senior Citizens, a 7 p.m. rosary service by the parish, followed by a family-directed vigil service. Visitation will continue for one hour before services at the church Friday.

Memorials: may be directed to the Bosco School System or the Brain Injury Association.
