Rex D. Hansen, 81, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. He was born April 17, 1928, the son of Oscar D. and Garland (Sams) Hansen, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Rex married Beeda Godfrey in 1949 and they were later divorced. He married Margaret Gilliland August 30, 1975 in Cedar Falls.

Rex graduated from NUHS in 1947. He attended Spartan Aviation in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he received his ANE Mechanical Certificate. He joined his father in Oscar D. Hansen & Son Plumbing & Heating and also formed and owned Mechanical Contractors, Inc. Rex was in charge of giving the Plumbing & Heating License examination for Cedar Falls. Rex was a member of Cedar Falls AMVETS, Post # 49, Elks Club, and EAA Plumber Union.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Cedar Falls; one son, Michael D. Hansen of Des Moines; one daughter, JoAnn (Brian) Tourtelotte of St. Paul, MN; one step son, Kevin Gilliland of Sarasota, FL. and one step daughter, Stacy (Rod) Gilliland Kabel of Des Moines; fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10;00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Rex was an avid airplane enthusiast and was a devout follower of anything with wings. He loved his cabin in Minnesota and was very interested in Cedar Falls history.
