EVANSDALE - Clarence Eugene Jewell Jr., 84, of Evansdale, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes.

He was born July 31, 1923, in rural Bluffton, son of Clarence E. Sr. and Marie Werhan Jewell. He married Ethel L. Helgeson on June 25, 1949, in Fort Riley, Kan.

Mr. Jewell graduated from Decorah High School in 1943, and also attended Spartan School of Aeronautics. He owned and operated Jewell's Body Shop from 1952 until present time. He served in the U.S. Army; was a charter member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church; and served as a chairman on the Evansdale Water Board.

Survivors include his wife; three sons: Michael (Deborah) of Washington, Steve of Elk Run Heights and Jim Sr. (Julie) of Evansdale; two daughters, Kathryn "Kay" Adkisson and Karen (Dave) Broell, both of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren: Brian and Lori Adkisson, Emily, Alissa and Christopher Jewell, Heather (Gary) McConnell, Katie Jewell, James Jr. and Jacob Jewell, Adam, Abby and Rachel Broell; a great-granddaughter, Emma McConnell; and two brothers, Robert (Rosie) and Tom, both of Decorah.

Preceded in death by his parents; an infant grandson, Jesse Jewell; and a sister, Sister Rosemary Jewell RSM.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary by the Legion of Mary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
