James E. Tanner

Services for James E. Tanner, 59, of 2809 Lafayette St., will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Payne Memorial A.M.E. Church with burial at Midwest Garder of Memories.

Mr.Tanner died Monday afternoon at Schoitz Memorial Hospital. Friends may call at Kearns-Dykeman Chapel after 5 p.m. Friday and at the church after 9 a.m. Saturday.

He was born in Waterloo Nov. 18, 1917, the son of James I.and Adelaide Lovicks Tanner. He was emplyed in the advertising department of Rath Packing Co. since 1944. He had served as Grand Prelate of the Iowa Jurisdiction of the Knights of Pythias and the Waterloo Lodge of the Knights of Pythias will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

A graduate of the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School in Vinton, he also received a B.A. degree from Fisk University. He was a member and soloist for the Waterloo Choral Association and a past president of the Waterloo Chapter of the National Federation for the Blind Christian Business Mens Association.

He received the Service to Mankind Award in 1969 from the Waterloo Sertoma Club.

Survivors include a brother, Othello of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Scott of 2809 Lafayette St., and Mrs. Madelean Green of 2803 Lafayette St.
