WATERLOO — Doris Mae Gunderson Niedert, 88, of Waterloo, died Friday, March 22, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born Dec. 4, 1924, on a farm in Wagner Township, daughter of Ralph and Alma Christianson Gunderson. She married Lloyd W. Niedert on Aug. 25, 1946, in Postville. He died Aug. 18, 1991.

She graduated from Elkader High School in 1942. Mrs. Niedert worked for Sears for 24 years, retiring in April 1986.

Survived by a son, Dennis (Linda) of La Porte City; three daughters: Dianne (Gayland) Popenhagen of Cedar Falls, Julie (Hal) Chase of Adel and Sharon (John) Schotter of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Holm and Fern Templeton, both of Waverly; a brother, Dean (Clarion) of Postville; three sisters-in-law: Kay Gunderson of Postville, Jan Gunderson of Fairbank and Marlys Carr of Caro, Mich.; and a brother-in-law, Russ Niedert of Houston.

Preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amanda Jo Schotter; a sister, Ruby Torkelson; two brothers, Arnold and Ralph; and three brothers-in-law, Quentin Torkelson, Duane Holm and Bernard Templeton.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waycoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Doris enjoyed working at Sears and the Sears Retirees. She remained active volunteering at Cedar Valley Hospice, bowling, playing cards, reading, attending family gatherings, working jig-saw puzzles, tending her flower garden, lefse making, playing computer solitaire and watching game shows, especially “Wheel of Fortune.”
