Bernita Marian (Volk) Pace, 84, passed away March 19, 2013, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

Born July 14, 1928, on a farm east of Waverly to Fredrick and Elizabeth Rosol Volk, she was a lifelong resident of Waverly. Bernita married Maurice “Pat” Pace in 1950, and together they raised seven children. She worked as the kitchen supervisor at Bremwood Lutheran Children’s Home from 1973 until her retirement.

Survived by Joe and Sherry Pace of Forest City, Mike and C.J. Pace of Sparta, Wisconsin, Ann and Ken Opatz of Lisbon, Tim and Mary Pace of Buckner, Mo., Carol and Bob Connolly of Johnston, Steve Pace of Independence, Missouri, and Dave and Karen Pace of Blue Springs, Missouri. Her 16 grandchildren and their families were her special pride and joy. Bernita is also survived by her sister-in-law, Florence Truesdell of Cedar Falls, many nieces and nephews and special friends Marlys and Dick Benschoter, Mary Loudermilk, Evelyn Rosenau and little Teagan.

Preceded in death by her husband, her parents and siblings Herbert, Fred, Lenore, Lillian, James and Roy.

Services 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Waverly. Family will greet friends and relatives beginning at 10 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Waverly Public Library. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, is assisting the family, (319) 352-1187.
