CEDAR FALLS - Charles Henry Nichols, 86, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Hospice Inpatient Center, Phoenix, Ariz., of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 15, 1913, in Waverly, son of Jess and Mabel Michler Nichols. He married Mabel Ethel Carter on March 7, 1933, in Waverly. She died July 28, 1964. He married Dorothy Kratchmer on Dec. 29, 1966 in Cedar Falls.

Mr. Nichols retired from employment with the slate of Iowa.

Survived by his wife; four sons: Raymond "Bud" of Cedar Falls, Ken of Minneapolis, Gene of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Connie of Raleigh, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Barbara Uhlenhopp of Waverly; a stepson, Ron Kratchmer of Waverly; 11 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren and a step-great-great-grandchild; a brother, Loren of Waverly; and a sister, Pauline Shipp of Tripoli.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Claire and Eldon; and two sisters, Mildred Gulsvig and Mary Smith.

Services: 1 :30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke^s Episcopal Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schpof Funeral Home.
