Hudson Woman
Dies at Age of 77;
Rites WednesdayHUDSON—Mrs. Anton Mortensen, 77, died at her home in Hudson at 1:27 a.m. Monday after a long illness of arthritis.
She was born on a farm northwest of Cedar Falls Aug. 20, 1876, daughter of Lucius and Rebecca Corwin.
On Feb. 12, 1895, she was married to Anton Mortensen at Cedar Falls. They spent all their married life farming in the vicinity of New Hartford and Shell Rock until they retired 18 years ago and moved to Hudson, where they have since resided. She was a member of the Methodist church of New Hartford and Community church of Hudson.
During her many years of invalidism she found much pleasure in the writing of poetry for which she was well known.
Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Ivah Howard and Mrs. Thelma Wassam, of Hudson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers and two sisters. She was the youngest and last of the 12 children of the Lucius Corwin family.
Funeral services will be at 2 p. m, Wednesday at the Locke Funeral home in Waterloo with the Rev. Harry Buss of Washington Chapel north of Cedar Falls officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Cedar Falls.
