EVANSDALE — Merriet S. “Bud” Harper, 93, of Evansdale, died at home Sunday, March 10, 2013.

He was born Feb. 7, 1920, in Hunter, Mo., son of Benjamin Franklin and Catherine Elisabeth Roller Harper. He married Genevieve Lagerman in 1940 in Salina, Kan., and they later divorced. He then married Dorothy Purinton on March 5, 1949, and they later divorced. He then married Edith Johnson on June 4, 1994, in Cedar Falls, and they later divorced.

Mr. Harper was a farmer and worked for the Trainer Co. as a gas pipeline installer.

Survived by six sons, Larry (Ruby) Harper of Huron, S.D., James “Jim” (Mary) Harper of Traer, Chester (Becky) Harper of Evansdale, David (Judy) Harper of St. Cloud, Minn., and William “Bill” (Connie) and Robert “Bob” (Jane) Mettlin, both of Waterloo; three daughters, Susan McBride of Waterloo, Carolyn Kientoff of Des Moines and Kitty (Chester) Anderson of Winnetoon, Neb.; 29 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Alice and Helen Harper; a brother, Jess; a son, K. Lee Mettlin; and two grandsons.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at NewAldaya Lifescapes Chapel, Cedar Falls, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, Waterloo, and an hour before services Wednesday at the chapel.
