Jean G McCullough
June 25, 1898 - February 9, 2004Jean Gillan McCullough was born June 25, 1898 in a farm home near Ballymena, Northern Ireland, the fifth child of James and Mary (Compton) Gillan. Her parents were God fearing people and in assembly fellowship. Her father was a blacksmith as well as a farmer. At an early age, through the influence of her parents and Sunday School teachers, Jean was made to understand her need of salvation in order to be in heaven. Just before her 10th birthday, on March 31, 1908, she trusted Christ as her personal Saviour through the words of Isa. 53:5. After finishing her schooling, she assisted a teacher in a country school for some time.
Later she studied as a tailoress and moved to the city of Belfast to work. There she met James McCullough, an evangelist. They were married September 28, 1921 and immigrated to Nova Scotia, Canada in 1924 to labor for the Lord. After a few years they moved to Connecticut where they resided for many years. After the death of her husband, she moved to Cedar Falls in 1967 and lived alone until she was over 100. On March 13, 1999 she moved to the Western Home and then to the Martin Health Center on February 20, 2003 where she was lovingly cared for until her death at the age of 105 years.
Survivors include her two sons, Eric (Jean) of Cedar Falls and James (Helen) of Odessa, Florida; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 13, at the Cedar Falls Gospel Hall, 13th & Walnut St., Cedar Falls.
Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Gospel Hall Missionary Fund.
