Charles V. Johnson, 80, of 227 State Street, died Saturday, July 23, at Covenant Medical Center from complications following surgery.

He was born May 2, 1914, in Waterloo, son of William and Emma Meyers Johnson. He married Leona "Toni" Ahles on August 19, 1939 in Waterloo. Mr. Johnson was a janitor at Rath Packing Company for 36 years retiring in 1976. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survived by his wife; two sons, William "Bill" of Montgomery, Alabama and Mark of Waterloo; a daughter, Linda Johnson of Waterloo; and six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Rice; two brothers, Chuck and Jerry; and a sister, Marcella Arrington.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church, with entombment in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Oppold-Hagarty Funeral Home, where there will be a 3 p.m. Senior Citizen Rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials: directed to St. Johns Catholic Church.
