Richard C. Kortemeyer, 71, of Leavenworth, Kansas, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday February 1, at Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center, Leavenworth, from complications from multiple sclerosis.
He was born August 21st, 1922 in Waterloo, son of Elmer J. and Edna Yeager Kortemeyer. He married Maxyne Richey in June 1946 in Waterloo.
Mr. Kortemeyer served with the U S Army in Europe during World War II. He received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Iowa State University in 1949. He was an electrical engineer for Cutler Hammer Inc. for 21 years, retiring in 1970.
Richards is survived by his wife; three sons: Lee of Liberty, Missouri, Jay of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Craig of Honolulu; three grandchildren; a brother, E. J. of Waterloo, and a sister Eleanor Erickson of Blanding, Utah.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Bill; and a sister, Kathryn Irma McCarty.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Parrott & Wood Funeral Home, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Flag-folding rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
