John L. Champ

John L. Champ, 77, of Waterloo and formerly of Fairfield died Monday, July 3, 2000, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Waterloo.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Mr. Champ was born June 20, 1923, in Fairfield, the son of Faye and Eulalia Carlow Champ. He married Marian Hill June 8, 1947, in Corning.

He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1941 and received his bachelor's degree in business adminstration from Parsons College.

Until his retirement in 1985, he worked as a counselor for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in the Iowa Department of Education. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Marian of Waterloo; one daughter, Barb Holzapfel of Waterloo; two sons, Stephen Champ of Loveland, Colo., and Brian Champ of Davenport; five grandchildren; and three sisters, Kathryn and Charlotte Champ, both of Fairfield, and Mary Kisling of Keosauqua.

Preceding him in death were five brothers and one sister.
