Henry Zander, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center. He was born September 15, 1920 in Tripoli, Iowa, the son of Henry Philip Zander, Sr. & Karoline (Schellhorn) Zander.

On July 10, 1947 he married Aneita M. Gjovig in Jesup, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2008. Henry attended Tripoli school, Iowa State University, and Gates Business College. He worked at Rath Packing Company, Carnation Dairy, Martin Brothers, and Waterloo Paper. He also owned & operated Zander Feed, Inc. for many years. He was a lifetime member of Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, and was a member of the 40/8 club, the Waterloo Elks Club, the Metro Exchange Club, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the American Legion Drum Corps, and was a volunteer Waterloo Policeman.

Suvivors include two daughters, Sharon (Garry) Dufel of Hudson, Iowa and Elaine (Mark) Slade of Janesville, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Stephanie (Patrick) Benoit of Hudson, Michelle (Christian) Craig of Waterloo and Elizabeth (Mark) Schildroth of Ankeny.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents and wife; two sisters, Erna Zander and Luella Meyer; and three brothers, Edwin, Lorenz, and Arnold Zander.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Military honors will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and Waterloo VFW Post 1623. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2009, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association, Western Home Communities or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
