WATERLOO — Harold Merle Mizner, 97, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Bickford Cottage, Cedar Falls.

He was born June 21, 1915, in Harvard, Neb., son of Roy A. and Ethel Mae Wadsworth Mizner. He married Helen Higgins on Dec. 23, 1944, in El Paso, Texas. She died June 15, 2010.

Mr. Mizner graduated from Grant, Neb., High School and the University of Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater and later in the Army Reserve attaining the rank of TSgt. He worked at the Nebraska Tractor Test Site while attending the University of Nebraska. Following World War II, he worked for Massey Harris Tractor in Racine, Wis., later Borg Warner in Decatur, Ill., and retired from John Deere Product Engineering Center as a developmental engine engineer.

Survived by a daughter, Elizabeth (Michael) Harn of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Laura (Christopher) Rohner of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Michael (Julie) Harn of Waterloo; and two great-grandsons, Michael and Ryan Harn of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a son, Gregory Michael; four brothers: Albert, Lawrence, Willie and Arnie; and three sisters: Ardis, and twins Merle and Muriel in infancy.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Harold at one time had a pilot’s license to fly a Piper Cub. He enjoyed his favorite pastime, golfing and watching golf. He also enjoyed gardening and watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
