Dr. Fred W Lott, Jr., 85, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, February 24, 2003, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Center in Cedar Falls.

Fred was born October 8, 1917 in Cherry Fork, Ohio, the son of Fred W. Lott, Sr. and Margaret Greene Lott.

He married Kathryn Deever on December 20, 1941 in Dayton, Ohio. Fred served with the Army Air Corps in the European Theatre during WW II. He received his A.B. and B.S. degrees, magna cum laude, from Cedarville College in Ohio and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics from the Univ. of Michigan. He was both a Professor of Mathematics, 1949-1984, and the Asst. Vice President for Academic Affairs, 1971-1984, at the Univ. of Northern Iowa. Fred was also a consultant for Rath Packing Company and the Dept. of Defense.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn, of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Diana K. (Carl) Anderson of W. Des Moines, Iowa and Patrician S. Lott (Alan Lincoln) of Seattle, Washington; two grandchildren, Julie Ann (Denis) LeRoy and Dorothy Sue (John) Walker; five great-grandchildren, Alexander, Kathryn and Samantha LeRoy, Devan Melberg and Autumn Walker; three sisters: Betty Lou (Dick) Miller, Peg (Herb) Muenstermann and Nancy (Viru) Henry; and a nephew, Dr. Anil Henry.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Dr. Fred W. Lott III; four brothers: Bill, Charles, Bob and Jack Lott; and a nephew, Ajit Henry.

Services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003, at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls.
