Alice Robeson was born June 11, 1908 in Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles H. “Harry” Robeson and Amy (Hoel) Robeson.

Her mother Amy Hoel Robeson was born June 25, 1884 in Rock Grove, Floyd Co., Iowa and died in 1910. She was buried in Rudd Evergreen Cemetery, in Floyd County, Iowa.

After the death of her mother, she was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Edwin and Anna (Wilk) Hoel. Her father and his parents moved to Yakima, Washington. Her father remarried and he died March 1964, and is buried in Enterprise,
Oregon.

She married Donald Edward Stokes March 21, 1937, the son of Arthur Ray and Elizabeth (Fehling) Stokes. He was born July 17, 1908 in Mitchell County, Iowa and died July 20, 1964.

She married Walter Edward Bellis, the widower of Frances (Olson) Bellis.

Walter was the son of Dale Bellis and Mary (Meyer) Bellis. He was born September 27, 1904 and January 19, 1974 and was buried in the Osage Cemetery where his first wife was buried.

Alice died in November 1983 and was buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery, where her first husband Donald Stokes was buried.

ANNIVERSARY PLANS MADE AT MITCHELL

Mitchell – Mr. and Mrs. Donald Stokes will be honored on their silver wedding anniversary, Sunday, with open house at Faith Lutheran Parish house from 1:30 to 5. In case weather is not favorable, the event will be held April 1.

Alice Robeson and Donald Stokes were married March 21, 1937 in Osage. They have two daughters; Mrs. Richard (Marilyn) Nerad and Mrs. Gordon (Jeannine) Olson, and 7 grandchildren.

Their two daughters will be hostesses. The open house is for all friends and relatives.
