John “Lennie” Leonard McRoberts, 83, of Waterloo, died Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Lennie was born March 13, 1926, at Eau Galle, Wisconsin, the son of John & Margaret (Hotter) McRoberts.

Lennie married Betty Akerhaugen. She preceded him in death. He married Pearl Harrison July 23, 1976 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII. Lennie was employed at John Deere for 28 years, retiring as a machinist in 1983.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl McRoberts, of Waterloo; his son, Scott (Kathy) McRoberts, of Waterloo; three stepsons: Chuck (Deb) Harrison of Wellsburg, Iowa, Jack (Kaye) Lantaff of Cedar Falls, Marty Lantaff of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Jason Aarons, Shane Aschbrenner, Andy Harrison, Ashley Edwards, and Kayla Aschbrenner; two great grandchildren, Christopher and Jillian Aarons; three brothers, Edward (Avis) McRoberts, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Russell (Darlene) McRoberts, of Mesa, Arizona, and Robert (Sandy) McRoberts of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and several nieces and nephews.

Lennie was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife; and two brothers, Charles and Elwood McRoberts.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and for one hour prior to service time Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.
