Charles E. and Marcella M. Wheeler

Marcella was born September 11, 1920 in Littleton, Iowa, the daughter of John C. and Irene A. (Hess) Toussaint. She graduated from Sumner High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in Cedar Falls, Iowa and Gates Business College in Waterloo, Iowa. Marcella worked for 18 years at the James Black Dry Goods Company in Waterloo, retiring as the Assistant Credit Manager in 1975.

Charles was born May 1, 1922 in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Charles E. and Laura M. (Tuegel) Wheeler. He served with the United States Army Air Corps during WW II. Charles was a night foreman at Pacific Gamble Robinson Company in Waterloo, retiring in 1984.

Marcella and Charles were united in marriage on September 23, 1946 in Sumner, Iowa. Marcella was a member of the Alter and Rosary Society at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waterloo. Charles was a member of the Knights of Columbus. They both were members of the Cedar Falls CB Emergency Club. Marcella died Monday, April 21, 2003, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 82 years of age. Charles died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, at 80 years of age.

They are survived by their children, Yvonne (Al) Duggan of Cedar Falls and Ed (Valena) Wheeler of Shawnee, Kansas; five grandchildren, Ryan Westphal, Todd Westphal, Laurinda Holen, Scott Westphal and Lynn Wheeler; Marcella’s sisters, Veryl Schares of New Hampton, Iowa and Ramona (Don) Menuey of Fairbank, Iowa; Charles’ brother, George (Norma Guether) Wheeler of Apache Junction, Arizona; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Toussaint of Sumner. Marcella and Charles were preceded in death by their parents; a daughter, Jana Westphal; a grandson, Christopher Wheeler; Marcella’s brother, Vern Toussaint and Charles’ sister, Margaret Hertz.

Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2003, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
