Daniel Joseph Fix Sr.

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA — Daniel Joseph Fix Sr., 86, of Cedar Falls, died Friday at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of congestive heart failure.

He was born April 3, 1926, in Mandan, N.D., son of Aloysius A. and Wilhelmina Paul Fix. He married Joy Maurine Edgington on February 4, 1948, in Mason City. She died March 24, 1999.

In 1958, Daniel founded D & J Oil Co., a distributorship for petroleum products. He also owned 21 gas stations from Nora Springs to Iowa City. In 1974 he founded Fix Tire Co. in Waterloo, retiring in 1989. He also co-owned several taverns in the local area.

Daniel was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army as a paratrooper.

He is survived by six sons: Daniel J. Jr. (Sharon) of Cedar Falls, Doug J. (Theresa) of Omaha, Nebraska, Dave J. (Ana Celia) of Cedar Falls, Dennis J. of Waterloo, Donald J. (Joan) of Mason City, Dean J. (Jacqueline) of Virginia; three daughters: Kathryn A. Manahl of Minneapolis, Mary M. (Mark) Kwiatowski of Milwaukee, Wis., and Patricia L.Siems of Waterloo; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert; and a sister, Violet.

Services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Waterloo, with entombment in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum, Waterloo, where military honors will be conducted by the Waterloo and Evansdale Amvets Posts 19 & 31, with flag presentation by the Iowa Army Honor Guard.

Public visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. 4th Degree Knights of Columbus rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil.

Public visitation will continue for one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
