SODAWASSER, MCDONALD, POWERS, MCAULIFFE

WATERLOO — Lois Sodawasser, 79, of Dubuque, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at the Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque.

She was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Dubuque, daughter of Peter and Mary Powers McDonald. She married Mel Sodawasser on Sept. 12, 1959, at St. Raphael’s Cathedral, Dubuque. He died Aug. 27, 1986.

Mrs. Sodawasser graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1951 and worked for the city auditor of Dubuque for eight years. After moving to Waterloo she was payroll clerk for KWWL and later a homemaker.

Survived by nine nephews, Ronald (Doris) McAuliffe of Peosta, Joe (Sharon) McAuliffe of Epworth, Jim (Cathy) McAuliffe, Dan (Mary) McAuliffe and Kevin (Sara) McDonald, all of Dubuque, Terry (Mary Ann) McDonald of Ann Arbor, Mich., Tim (Karen) McDonald of Chicago, Mike (Ellen) McDonald of Mapleshore, Minn., and Pat (Martha) McDonald of Evanston, Ill.; seven nieces, Peg Nauman and Tina (Vince) Kutsch, both of Dubuque, Kathy (Roger) Hershberger of Jesup, Connie (Dan) Wilgenbusch of Epworth, Maureen (Paul) Trefy of Beverly, Mass., Sheila (Gary) Jewell of St. Louis and Jean Ann of Milwaukee; 21 grandnieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Helen McDonald of Dubuque.

Preceded in death by: a sister, Mary Jane (John) McAuliffe; and two brothers, Tom and John “Jay” (Janann) McDonald.

Services: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Memorials in lieu of flowers: may be directed to a charity of donor’s choice.

Aunt Lois was a special aunt to her nephews and nieces. She took pride in remembering birthdays, anniversaries and other special days in our lives. Notes, cards and phone calls will be missed by all.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Stonehill Care Center for the loving care given Lois for the past two years.
