WATERLOO, IOWA — Bernice Mathews, 93, of Council Bluffs, formerly of Waterloo, died Jan. 14 at Risen Son Christian Village, Council Bluffs.

She was born Jan. 13, 1920, in Bremer County, daughter of Carl and Mary Marsh Oltrogge. She married Howard “Pete” Mathews on May 23, 1944, in Waterloo. He died August 7, 1992.

Mrs. Mathews had worked as a realtor for a time.

Survived by a son, Bill (Kathy) of West Des Moines; five grandchildren: Lori (Patrick) Moriarity of Port Orchard, Wash., Tina (David) Wurth and Jason (Katie) Stavropoulos, both of Omaha, Neb., John (Cindy) Stavropoulos of Holton, Kan., and Jodi (Kevin) Waddell of Adel; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Stavropoulos, who lived in Omaha.

Memorial services will be held this summer.
