WATERLOO/CEDAR FALLS — Shirley Ann Spicher, 71, formerly of Vinton, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, following a brief illness.

She was born Sept. 20, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of Donald C. and Ella Mae McNeal Holst. On Aug. 14, 1960, she married Charles E. Spicher at Vinton Presbyterian Church, Vinton.

Mrs. Spicher graduated from Washington High School, Vinton, in 1959, and attended Iowa State Teachers College from 1959 until 1960. She worked as a clerk in the card department at Feller’s Dime Store, Vinton, and later provided child care in her home. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Vinton, and most recently had been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Waterloo. She was a Bible school and Sunday school teacher; was a member of the Altar Guild; was a member of the women’s Circle; and also served as a leader for 4-H and Cub Scouts.

Survived by her husband of Waterloo/Cedar Falls; a son, Steve (Connie) of Vinton; two daughters, Shelly L. (Warren) Riley of Bettendorf and Holly A. (Brian) Boerhave of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren, Erin (Daniel) Spicher Swan, Emily Spicher, Dionne and Abbey Riley, and Sarah, Rebekah and Benjamin Boerhave; and a brother, Dr. Donald C. (Merilee) Holst of Fontana, Wis.

Celebration of Life service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with burial in Maplewood Cemetery, both in Vinton, Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home, Vinton, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
