William Herman Scheppele, 77 Ricker Street, died at his home at 8 o'clock this morning after a long illness of a complication of diseases. Funeral services will be conducted from the residence at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and a half hour later at Calvary Evangelical church, Rev. J. A. Haebien officiating. Burial will be in Fairview.

Mr. Scheppele was born in Baden, Germany, Feb. 21, 1855, and emigrated to America in 1873. He settled at once on a farm near Cedar Falls and five or six years later removed to Dubuque. In 1900, he came to Waterloo.

During his residence in Dubuque he was married in 1886 to Miss Emma Cress and to the union were born six children, one of whom died when very young. The survivors are: Emanuel, Walter, Jesse and Roy, at home, and Mrs. Claude Peverill, of Waterloo. The wife also is living, as is his mother, a brother, George, of Dubuque, and a sister, Mrs. John Kaltenbach, Waterloo.

In 1875, Mr. Scheppele was converted. He united here with the Emanuel Evangelical church and two years ago transferred his membership to the Calvary Evangelical church. He was a member of the building committee of both churches. During his church affiliations he acted as Sunday school teacher and also as superintendent.
