DEATH SUMMONS AN OLD RESIDENT
Last evening at 6:30, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.J. Rice, 503 Independence Avenue, with whom she had made her home for several years past, occurred the death of Mrs. Eliza E. Miller, widow of the late O.S. Miller and a resident of Black Hawk County for fifty-two years. Death was due to weakness incident to old age as deceased was nearly eighty years old. For the past two months she had been confined to her bed and her death was not unexpected.
Deceased, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Ellen Casteel, was born in Coshocton County, Ohio, on January 26, 1826. She was married to Owen F. Miller, May 29, 1844. In 1855 she moved to Black Hawk County and had lived her continuously for fifty-two years, most of the time on a farm near town.
Eleven children were born to them, seven daughters and four sons. Of these, four daughters and two sons survive to mourn the loss of a devoted and loving mother. Her husband died eleven years ago and soon after his death she moved to Waterloo to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rice, where she was tenderly cared for during her declining years. The children who survive are O. C. Miller, Creswell, Ore.; Mrs. E.T. King, Boise, Ida.; Mrs. J. J. Rice, C. A. Lewis, Mrs. J. E. Chapin and Mrs. Joel D. Miller, all of Waterloo.
Deceased was a life long member of the Presbyterian church and took active part in its work until old age came on. Her Christian faith was beautiful to witness and was an inspiration to all her friends. The funeral will be held from the home of Mrs. Rice, 503 Independence Avenue, tomorrow afternoon at 2:30. Rev. H. G. Beeman will conduct the services, and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
