Melissa Matthews, age 77, wife of J. P.* Matthews, died at 9 a.m. at her home, 1600 Forest avenue, of heart trouble.

She had been living in Eldorado Springs, Mo., until a year ago when she came to Waterloo to be near her son, N.G. Matthews, 1316 Third Street west.

Her husband is still in Eldorado Springs. He is 82. In addition to her son here and her husband she is survived by three other children, F.H. Matthews of Chicago, G.E. Matthews of Kansas City, Mo., and a daughter, Mrs. J.F. Dunkerton, Des Moines.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the home of the son, 1316 Third street west, in charge of Rev. Mr. Ross, Kansas City, Mo.

The body is at Hileman & Gindt mortuary.
