Betty J. Strumpel, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Center.

She was born June 28, 1921 at Maynard, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Helen (Howell) Van Sickle. Betty married Earl A. Huggins August 11, 1940 at Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death January 16, 1956. She worked in the clerical department at John Deere for seventeen years, retiring in 1972.

Betty is survived by one daughter, Kathy (Tom) Thompson, of Cedar Falls; one son-in-law, Ron (Pat) Mythaler, of Palm Coast, Florida; five grandchildren, Tammie (Dave) Blake, Marci (Ken) Gerrish, Jodi Tetley, James (Kathy) Thompson and Kris (John) Dircks; nine great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; and three sisters, Alice Reiter of Waterloo, Juanita (Bud) Bowman of Hudson and Shirley Elsberry of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Earl Huggins, Orville Lee, Ben Hatch and George Strumpel; one daughter, Pam Mythaler; one granddaughter, Shelly Thompson, and two brothers, Robert and Frank Van Sickle.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2008, at Ascension Lutheran Church and burial will be at Waterloo Memorial Park, both in Waterloo. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2008, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls.

Memorials may be directed to Ascension Lutheran Church or to Cedar Valley Hospice.
