Funeral Services Wednesday for Two of Three Victims of Gilbertville Collision

Widows of two of the three men killed in an accident near Raymond Saturday night were recovering at St. Francis Hospital Monday from accident inuries.

Mrs. Robert Federspiel, 22, and Mrs. Peter Welter, 49, both of Gilbertville, both were listed in fairly-good condition by hospital officials.

Robert Federspiel, 28, Peter Welter, 65, and Arnold Peter Schmit, 52, also of Gilbertville were killed in the crash on Hwy. 297.

Schmit was attempting to repair a flat tire on his car when a car driven by Federspiel approached from the rear and struck him, crushing him between the two cars.

PETER A. WELTER

Peter A. Welter, 65, of Gilbertville, was born January 3, 1897, the son of Nicholas and Susan Clemens Welter at Crookston, Minnesota.

He married Ceola Schuler on July 9, 1937 at Waterloo. He operated the Dew Drop Inn Tavern in Gilbertville for the past 12 years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in World war I; and a member of the Immaculate Conception Church at Bilbertville, and the American Legion Nugent Demuth Post, No. 714.

Surviving are his wife, three brothers: Fred Welter of Orange, California; Andrew of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; and George of 618 Independence Ave.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

The body is at the Oppold Funeral Home. Services are being planned for a later in the week pending discharge of his widow from the hospital.
