Had Lived in Waterloo 77
Years, Helped Found
Public Library.

Funeral services were being planned Wednesday for George Colvin Kennedy, 85, of 427 Pine street, retired patent attorney and resident of Waterloo for the past 77 years, who died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in his home.

He had been failing the past five years and death was attributed to complications incident to advanced age.

Mr. Kennedy retired from law practice in 1944, having been a patent attorney for 50 years. He received a law degree from Drake university, Des Moines in 1885.

He was one of the founders of the Waterloo public library, and served on its board of directors from 1896 to 1902.

He was a member of Knights Templar, Ascalon Commandery, bearer of a life certificate from Masonic lodge, member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows and of Knights of Pythias.

Born Feb. 13, 1864, in Sheboygan, Wis., son of Dennis A. and Lorraine Kennedy, he moved to Waterloo with his family in 1872, and had resided here since.

On July 26, 1902, he married Celestia Edelen at Waterloo.

Surviving are his wife and three sons, Francis E. Kennedy, at home, George L., Long Beach, Cal., and Craig, 119 Vine street. Two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Lewis and Mrs. Jessie Craig, and a brother, Charles A. Kennedy, preceded him in death.

The body is at O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home.
