WATERLOO — W. B. "Bill" McMurray, 87, of Waterloo, died on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center of Western Home Communities of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Waterloo, son of William B. Sr. and Ethel Bartholow McMurray. He married Mary A. House on Aug. 25, 1949, at First Presbyterian Church, Waterloo. She died March 9, 2001.

Mr. McMurray graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1943 and attended Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa) majoring in English literature. He owned and operated McMurray Insurance Inc. for more than 43 years, retiring in 1988.

He served during World War II in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of First Congregational Church.

Survived by a daughter, Susan M. (Dan) Hummel of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Christensen.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Waterloo, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery, and with military rites by Waterloo American Legion Post No. 138 and VFW Post No. 1623 and the U.S. Air Force. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to church or Waterloo Elks Lodge No. 290.
