WATERLOO — Carole J. Gray, 70, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center from pulmonary embolism.

She was born Jan. 25, 1942, in Milwaukee, daughter of Daniel and Dolores Smith Pond. She married Kenneth Wayne Gray on June 19, 1960, in Waterloo. He died July 9, 1992.

Mrs. Gray graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1960; received her degree from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, in 1989, then continued with the master’s program for two years. She had worked as a credit secretary at St. Francis Hospital from 1978 to 1982. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Women of the Church, Widows and Widowers Group, Seniors 55+ group, taught Bible School, was a past president of Kittrell PTA, volunteered with Women in Communications, attended monthly book club meetings, and the Waterloo Water Works Retiree luncheons.

Survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Paul) Corwin and Karen (Jeff) Bass, both of Waterloo; a son, Kevin of Marion; three grandchildren, Ryan Corwin, and Alex and Rachel Bass; four brothers: Gary (Mabel) Pond of Waterloo, Dennis Andersen of Evansdale, Dave (Cheryl) Andersen of Mason City and Gregory (Diane) Andersen of Elk Run Heights; and a sister-in-law, Jan Pond of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a brother, Gene Pond.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home.
