WATERLOO — Everett E. Stewart, age 85, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

Everett was born March 22, 1927, in Brookfield, Mo., the son of Ervin E. and Leona McPike Stewart. He grew up in the Brookville and Meadville, Mo., area and graduated from Meadville High School. After school, he entered the U.S. Army at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and served in Korea, receiving the World War II Victory Medal.

In 1949 Everett came to Waterloo to find work. He not only found work at John Deere & Co. for 34 years, but he also found the love of his life, Nora L. Durns. They were married Nov. 25, 1949, after knowing each other for three months. Nora passed away on Feb. 28, 1996. They became parents to Janette, Rick and Sheila.

Everett had a love for playing his harmonica and wrestling. He also found the Lord God his Savior through Glad Tidings Assembly of God.

Survivors include a son, Rick (Carol) Stewart of Waterloo; two daughters, Janette Smelser of Rockford, Ill., and Sheila (Jack) Stewart of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren: Nick, Elise, Jon, Amanda, Sandra, Branda, Ean, Kris, Robert, Jeremiah, Amber and Dani; 20 great-grandchildren, Brianna, Seth, Cheyenne, Kayla, DeMarus, Shi Dre’Keisha, Sierra, Alayna, Laylla, Zayden, Taylor, James, Tamara, Candis, Kayla, Robin, Heather, Kaitlyn, Kyra and Jackson; nine great-great-grandchildren: Keaton, Kadin, Ethan, Kamarion, Quintel, Alexis, Emily, Alliyah and Angel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Garden View Chapel. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and the Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail. Public visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
