Arvilla Sherwood was born July 29, 1917 near New Hartford, Iowa, the daughter of Jim and Mary (Miller) Jacobsen. She died at her home on Saturday, January 18, 2003, at 85 years of age.

She married Edward T. Sherwood on June 4, 1940 at Fredsville Lutheran Church in rural Dike, Iowa. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1996. Arvilla was a 1935 graduate of Dike High School and a 1938 graduate of Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). She taught school for 3 years with the Hartwick, Iowa School District before raising her family and farming with her husband Edward near Dike. Arvilla was a life-long member of Fredsville Lutheran Church.

Arvilla is survived by her children: Darryl (Peggy) Sherwood, Delmar (Susan) Sherwood and Denise (John) Craig, all of Dike; seven grandchildren: Julie Leonard, Brad and Andrea Sherwood, and Deidra, Melissa, Valerie and Jason Craig; and a sister, Loraine Ames of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at Fredsville Lutheran Church in rural Dike. Interment will be at Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church, the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home or the Dike Library.
