ELLIOTT, BAKER

Wm. H. Elliott, father of Ed. E. Elliott died at his home, 204 Maple street at 8 o'clock last night. Mr. Elliott was born in New Hampshire in 1832 and was past 66 years of age. He moved from the place of his birth with his family when a young boy to Massachusetts and spent the greater part of his boyhood there. Early in 1860 he came west and located in Waterloo. He was for a long time steward of the old Sherman house, and after that hosteiry was closed he held the same position in the Central house for some time.

Mr. Elliott has been a great sufferer from asthma for a score of years. He learned the trade of a tailor, but on account of his poor health was unable to work long at that business and became a painter and paper hanger. He was married to Miss Cornelia Baker, who survives him. The ceremony was performed by Col. W.H. McClure who was then a justice of the peace at Cedar Falls.

Besides son and wife, the only near relatives, who are living here are two brothers of Mrs. Elliott, Harl and Geo. W. Baker.

The funeral service will be held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Walnut street Baptist church. Rev. Beeman officiating and the interment will be in Fairview.

Mr. Elliott was one of the earlies settlers of Waterloo and has seen all of the wonderful growth of the city. He was a good man and a good citizen, and his death creates a feeling of general sorrow.
