ROTH, STUTZMAN, STEEGE, BROOKS, MILLER, WEISS

George D. Roth, 86, went home to his Lord on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Allen Memorial Hospital of complications of a brain tumor and pneumonia.

He was born Nov. 9, 1926, in Milford, Neb., son of William and Emma Stutzman Roth. He married Jean Steege on April 9, 1953, in Waterloo. She died Aug. 23, 2005.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He was an over-the-road truck driver for various trucking companies, Rath Packing, Little Audrey and Rath Feed, starting in 1947, and then was an independent driver for Warren Transport from 1972 until his retirement in 2001.

He is survived by a son, Daniel of Waterloo; a daughter, Debra (Michael) Brooks of Gunnison, Colo.; three grandchildren, Kevin, Nina and Derek Brooks; two brothers, Harold (Donna) Roth and Wayne (Aloha) Roth, all of Milford, Neb.; a brother-in-law, Art Ecklund of Cedar Falls and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, Eric Brooks; two brothers, Rollin and Les Roth; two sisters, Leona Miller and Irva Weiss; two nephews, Duane Roth and Lyle Miller.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be made to Covenant Cancer Treatment Center.
