WATERLOO — Dorothea “Dorothy” Neil Sohner, 106, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born Feb. 23, 1906, in Hales Corners, Wis., daughter of Harry H. and Dorothea Conrad Neil. She married Russell E. Sohner on April 10, 1941, in Hales Corners. He died April 26, 1988.

She graduated from high school in East Troy, Wis., attended Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis., and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, in 1927. Mrs. Sohner taught in Milwaukee for 20 years and then at Kingsley Elementary, Waterloo, for 10 years, retiring in 1956. She was active with the Waterloo Teachers Community Concerts where she became a member of the board. She was a longtime member and held many offices in Chapter IX of PEO; she was a former member of the Waterloo Women’s Club; and was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1947.

Survived by many cousins; two nieces, Jennie (Steve) Nottger of Hudson and Susan (Don) Mendenhall of DeForest, Wis.; and three nephews, David (Kathy) Lewis of Blue Grass, Tom (Jean) Eaton of Albert Lea, Minn., and Jeff (Heidi) Eaton of Madison, Wis.; many grandnieces and grandnephews; and great-grandnieces and -grandnephews.

Preceded in death by a brother, Chester Neil; a sister, Thelma Schuster; and a niece, Merry Hills.

Memorial services: 1:30 p.m. Jan. 18, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church, with private graveside services at Fairview Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Family will greet friends following the service at the church. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.
