Funeral services for M. Floyd Coontz, 84, of 704 Kimball Ave., long-time drug store operator, who died at 2:45 p.m. Friday of complications of a broken hip at Schoitz Memorial Hospital, will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Parrott & Wood Funeral Home.

The Rev Gary Reif, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the Parrott & Wood Chapel from noon today until service time. Those who wish may leave memorial contributions at the chapel to the Iowa Pharmacy Foundation, a scholarship fund.

Mr. Coontz was born May 14, 1884, in Decatur County, son of Anthony and Cynthia Newlin Coontz. He came here in 1909 after graduation from State University of Illinois School of Pharmacy as an employee of the Henderson Drug Company.

He married Hazel Green here December 8, 1915.

In 1911 he pruchased the Red Cross Drug Company, 620 Sycamore Street, and until 1947 operated it in partnership with C. J. Zimmerman. His son, Philip, was later associated in the 54-year-old business with him.

Mr. Coontz was a member of Rho Chi, honorary pharmaceutical fraternity, Black Hawk Pharmaceutical Assocation, serving as honary president of the latter organization in 1960-61.

Surviving are his widow; three sons: Philip of 121 Midlothian Drive, Louis of Millard, Nebraska, and Harvey of Evansville, Indiana; and one daughter, Mrs. Walter Johnson, of New Hampton.

Other survivors are three brothers: the Rev. E. O. Coontz of Lawndale, California, Ivan of Cherokee, Oklahoma, and Archie of Leon; one sister, Mrs. Lawrence Berry of Joliet, Illinois; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, seven brothers and one sister.
