Clinton Eugene Sage
(December 25, 1914 - December 23, 2012)

Clinton Eugene Sage was born Dec. 25, 1914, in Bennington Township, the son of Russell and Hazel (Steely) Sage. Clinton graduated from Dunkerton High School and Iowa State College, now Iowa State University, with a degree in animal husbandry.

He was united in marriage to Helen Scott on Nov. 27, 1941, in Mitchellville. Helen died in February 1987. Clinton was married to Mary Penly Brennan in September 1988 in Eureka Springs, Ark. Mary died in June 2006.

Clinton served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He was a captain and served three years in the Pacifi c theater with the 245th Port Company Army Transportation Corps. Clinton farmed until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of Mount Hope United Methodist Church. Clinton died at the age of 97 on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Friendship Village, Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; a daughter, Linda Jean; two sisters, Irene Kramer Morgan and Mary Johns; and a brother, Harlan Sage.

Clinton is survived by four children: Jeff rey (Vee) Sage of Waverly, Susan Jett of Sugarland, Texas, Jane (Larry) Heimerl of Hopkins, Minn., and Sandra (Tom) Morris of Bristol, Ind.; three stepchildren: Karen (Ruedi) Good and John (Karen Jane) Brennan, both of Sherman, Texas, and Patty (Tom) Matthews of Sugarland, Texas; eight grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothersin-law, Charles Johns of Tulsa, Okla., and Bill Penly of Sherman, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Marlys Sage of Madison, Wis.

Clinton was a loving husband and loving father. Farming, family, faith and friends became the mainstay of his life.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, where visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Garden of Memories, with military rites by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and Waterloo VFW Post 1623.

Memorials may be directed to Mount Hope United Methodist Church, Iowa 4-H Foundation or Salvation Army.
