WATERLOO - Walter Wilson Sr., 74, formerly of 436 Edwards St., died Thursday, April 27, 2001, at Parkview Gardens Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 6, 1926, in Coffeyville, Miss., son of Betty Huggins Wilson. He married Rebecca Barrett on Aug. 1, 1953, in Lambert, Miss.

Mr. Wilson was employed by John Deere from 1966 to 1968 and FMC in Cedar Rapids from 1969 to 1979. From 1979 until 1995 he was associated with several Waterloo funeral homes, including Chapel of Memories, Parrott and Wood, Morning Star and most recently as assistant to the director at Greer Funeral Home Inc., until becoming disabled. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Walter Wilson Jr. of Cedar Rapids and Claude Manning of Waterloo; four daughters, Katie Malone, Betty Gilmore and E. Marie Stigler, all of Waterloo, and Nancy Spivial of Rockford, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Earlene Chamberlain and Inell Peggs, both of Waterloo; and 48 grandchildren, 94 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: two sons; a stepdaughter, Nora Robinson; a step-granddaughter; three brothers, James Jackson, Willie Wilson Sr. and Rufus Wilson; and two sisters, Ethel Wilson and Marie Pools.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and for an hour before services Friday, all at the church. Following chapel committal, military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623.

Memorials may be directed to the family at 436 Edwards St., where they will be receiving friends.

"People-Finders.ws" and "Public Records Now" both show his middle inital as "J", Waterloo, Iowa, and possible relative is "Rebecca", which is his wife's name in the obit.
