EVANSDALE — Gearl “Cupie” Gray, 87, of Evansdale, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, of an abdominal aortic aneurysm.

He was born Oct. 11, 1925, in Decatur, son of Americus and Tressie Pullen Gray. He married Pauline Carrier on July 14, 1943, in Leon. She died Feb. 12, 2012.

Mr. Gray worked at Waterloo Industries, retiring in 1987, after 30-plus years.

Survived by a son, Rick of Waterloo; a daughter, Patricia Ann Rice of Evansdale; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by a son, James; and numerous siblings.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Garden of Memories, both in Waterloo. Military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and for an hour before services Wednesday at the chapel.

Memorials may be directed to the family

Cupie enjoyed fishing, watching sports and NASCAR, playing cards and lottery tickets. Most of all, he enjoyed life and being around others. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
